EXPLORING FINANCIAL MARKET (BMSFI008)

-

-

PORFOLIO MANAGEMENT 1 (BMSFI009)

The emphasis will be particularly put both on modern portfolio theory and on capital market theory which proposes financial assets equilibrium models. Portfolio management in the context of the efficiency of financial markets will also be discussed. The course also highlights the daily activities of financial advisors, portfolio managers and finance professionals who manage investment funds or supervise their management. By the end of this course, students should be able to manage a securities portfolio and to work for a brokerage firm or an investment funds' manager. The knowledge acquired during this course is also part of the curriculum for the qualification of financial management advisor.

Portfolio management is developing very quickly, not only in France but also around the world. Today we are witnessing a transformation in household savings. Investment funds, shares and bonds of all kinds are now part of households' financial assets. Indeed, they rely on portfolio management professionals to manage their savings and thus they contribute to the development of this activity.
Modern portfolio management requires the use of more and more complex techniques , the selection and rapid processing of the relevant financial and economic information. This course aims to familiarize the student with the principles and stages of the portfolio management process of stocks and shares. The following themes will be introduced : portfolio management and risk analysis, investors' constraints and objectives, investment policy, collective management, integration of investment and forecasting policies and distribution of assets.

PORTFOLIO MANAGEMENT 2 (BMSFI007)

The professional objectives are defined according to classic company structure. The module, therefore, aims to train the student to be a financial officer's or treasurer's assistant, a rate manager's assistant or an alternative manager's assistant. These professional objectives require technical qualities and the ability to make immediate decisions. So as to achieve these goals, the module presents interest rate or exchange rate products, along with the process of alternative management. The issues raised by domestic investment lead us to introduce students to the analysis of useful variables and the importance of making a rational investment choice. For an international investment or funding, the company will have to acquire a solid knowledge of the foreign exchange market and of international financial management. Indeed, the company will have the opportunity to lend or borrow money on the foreign market

Economic operations are subjected to a certain number of risks linked, among other things, to interest rates and rates of exchange. In order to reduce these risks, it is necessary to efficiently anticipate interest rates and rates of exchange. Nevertheless, because of the unsettled state of the market, this anticipation is not enough. To overcome this difficulty, operators resort to different financial products enabling them to cover themselves against fluctuating interest rates and rates of exchange.
This uncertainty has provoked some anomalies on the market. Classic and semi-classic management, based on the benchmark, are often inappropriate. Market operators therefore often resort to alternative management which enables them to aim at an absolute performance while remaining detached from the market. This method of management is becoming more and more widespread and is constantly developing
